If you are looking to add a vertical spark of desert-inspired drama to your garden, the Poco Red Kniphofia is your go-to perennial. This compact powerhouse, often called Red Hot Poker, stands a sturdy 20 inches tall and wide, making it the perfect size for tight spaces or the front of a flower border. It thrives in full, blazing sun and actually prefers our well-drained mountain soils. What makes the ‘Poco Red’ a real winner for us is its relentless bloom cycle; it sends up torch-like spikes of vivid red from early summer straight into autumn. Because it is naturally deer and rabbit resistant, you can plant it with confidence even in open landscapes. Its a nectar-rich magnet for hummingbirds, ensuring your yard isn’t just beautiful to look at, but a living, breathing sanctuary. This plant is as tough as it is gorgeous, proving you don’t need a lot of water to get a lot of color.
