Overview & Description

The Prairie Fire Dogwood (Cornus alba Prairie Fire) is a stunning deciduous shrub prized for its brilliant golden-yellow foliage that emerges in spring and creates a vibrant display on striking red stems. Throughout spring and summer, small white flower clusters appear, followed by small, white ornamental berries that attract birds. In autumn, the foliage transforms to a rich crimson, while the stems intensify to a brilliant orange-red, providing exceptional winter interest.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits an upright, multi-stemmed, suckering growth habit. It is a moderate to fast-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 5-6.5 feet in height with a spread of 5 feet.

Additional Notes

It blooms from spring to summer. Hardy to Zone 3, it tolerates pollution and adapts to a wide variety of soil types. For best stem colour, prune in early spring. An outstanding choice for winter interest, mixed borders, mass plantings, and urban gardens where vibrant foliage and colourful stems are desired.
