Overview & Description

The Bloomerang Dark Purple Lilac (Syringa x SMSJBP7) from Proven Winners is a compact, reblooming deciduous shrub celebrated for its intense, fragrant, dark purple flower clusters and exceptional repeat-blooming habit. It delivers a heavy flush of showy, sweetly fragrant blooms in late spring, followed by a continuous, reliable display from mid-summer into fall, providing an extended season of colour. It has dense, clean, dark green, heart-shaped foliage that is highly resistant to powdery mildew.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits a neat, rounded, multi-stemmed, and bushy form. It is a slow to moderate-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 4 to 5 feet in height with a similar spread of 4 to 5 feet. It can be expected to live for approximately 30 years under ideal conditions.

Additional Notes

It blooms in late spring and then continuously from mid-summer until frost. Hardy to Zones 3, it is low-maintenance, disease-resistant, and thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. It attracts butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds, but is resistant to deer and rabbits. For best rebloom, it should be pruned lightly after the spring flush fades. Perfect for foundation plantings, borders, small gardens, or as a fragrant focal point where the classic lilac experience is desired with modern, long-lasting blooms.
