Sambucus nigra Thundercloud is a dramatic elder with glossy red-black foliage that holds its colour all season. In May and June it bears clusters of vivid red-pink flowers, creating a striking contrast. Growing 14m, it is hardy, easy to grow, and responds well to hard pruning or stooling.
