A striking snake plant, formerly Sansevieria trifasciata, with dark green upright leaves outlined in golden yellow.

Why we like it

• Bold dark green and gold leaves
• Low watering requirement
• Strong vertical shape

What to know

• Best in bright, indirect light; tolerates lower light but grows more slowly.
• Use a pot with drainage and a gritty houseplant or succulent compost.
• Allow the compost to dry completely before watering; water much less in winter.
• Keep warm, ideally 1627C, and away from cold windows and draughts.
• Wipe leaves gently and keep out of reach of pets or children who may chew them.
